Belarc Advisor Instructions

Ask each of your PC users to do the following:

  1. Click on the download link for Belarc Advisor
  2. Select Run when prompted.  Windows Vista & Windows 7 users will also need to respond to the User Account Control message asking for permission to allow the program to run.  Click on “Yes” when prompted.
  3. The program will ask the user to “Agree“ and “Install” to begin the installation process.  Click on “I Agree”, then “Install”, to begin the installation.
  4. The program will then ask whether it should check for new security definitions.  Click on Yes.  The program will download the Advisor security definitions.  When it informs you that the update is complete, click on OK.
  5. Belarc Advisor will then run an analysis of the computer that it is being installed on.  Note that it is common for it to seem to get “stuck” for a while at the 54% mark, so don’t be concerned at this point.
  6. When the analysis is complete, the results will be presented in a web browser window.
  7. Save the report by selecting File, then Save As (or Page, then Save As) in the Internet Explorer menus.
  8. Choose a name for the saved file that makes some sense and that will not conflict with anybody else’s saved report – usually the user’s name or the name of the computer would be the best choice.
  9. Attach the saved file to an email message and send it to support@markreynolds.com.au.  Preferably each user should include in the email message some extra information that might be helpful to me such as the user’s name, location, purpose of the PC, and most importantly, whether that PC will require access to the server.
These reports will provide information that needs to be taken into account in upgrading your PC’s or setting up each PC to access your network & server.
